Smith & Wollensky - Steak and Seafood in London's Theatreland

Smith & Wollensky has been serving up what is without doubt the finest steak in America since it first opened its doors in New York in 1977. After winning the heart of the Big Apple, those award-winning steaks were soon to be found all across the States, from the windy city of Chicago to the hot sands of Miami Beach. Last year, Smith & Wollensky launched its first London site in the historic Grade II-listed Adelphi Building just off the Strand and offers a selection of signature USDA prime dry-aged steaks and premium seafood, alongside award-winning wines and classic cocktails.

Smith & Wollensky steaks are dry-aged for a minimum of 28 days to achieve the utmost tenderness and flavour, hand cut daily at the on-site butchery. Diners can opt for a sirloin or the signature bone-in rib eye, there is also a selection of premium Irish fillet mignon charbroiled cuts and ‘Butcher’s Specials’ displayed on a chalkboard.

Seafood is also a speciality with herb-crusted tuna loin served alongside ocean-fresh premium shellfish such as Cumbrae oysters, jumbo shrimp and whole North Atlantic lobster. The signature shellfish platter is ideal for those wanting to share.  Delicious sides such as buttermilk onion rings and truffled mac ‘n’ cheese for two are true to everything that makes eating out in America such a memorable experience. For afters, there are classic desserts such as the staple New York-style cheesecake, and a traditional cheese trolley for guests to round off their meal.

The drinks list offers an extensive range of Champagne and fine wine for diners to wash down their food. The selection of wines from the US is arguably the best in Europe. Head bartender Ernest Reid has created an array of classic and contemporary cocktails including the signature Perfect Lady (Tanqueray 10, Crème De Pêche, lemon juice, egg white, syrup) and the Famer’s Tipple (Belvedere, St-Germain elderflower liqueur, cucumber, cinnamon syrup, lemon and apple juice, absinthe), perfectly complimenting the food.

Set over two floors, Smith & Wollensky is a mix of dark oak wood, green leathers and vibrant pops of red. Art deco tiling and marble surfaces, alongside beautiful 1920s-inspired murals create a glamorous feel.  Guests can choose to dine at the large banquettes or opt to sit at the bar, perfect for those visiting solo.  Located on the doorstep of London’s famous Theatreland, the restaurant serves as the ideal setting for a suitably sumptuous supper before or after catching a show. A selection of private dining rooms are also available, perfect for stylish soirées and plush parties of up to 50.

Having firmly made its mark on the London dining scene, Smith & Wollensky has attracted the great and the good of the City, from Tom Jones, who can often be seen enjoying his Cajun rib-rye before a short walk to his suite at The Savoy, to sportsmen Ben Cohen, Zinzan Brooke and Michael Vaughan, who claimed his meal was the best steak he’d ever eaten! Serving exquisite food and drink, Smith & Wollensky offers Londoners timeless elegance in the Capital’s most vibrant district.
